Khushu’ in Prayer
Here’s the contributions that you guys made as to what helps one have humility, sincerity and attentiveness in prayer:
- Make dhikr through out the day, and don’t getting involved in others business, so you don’t think about it during salah!
- Read this book: 33 Ways of Developing Khushu in Salah by Sheikh Munajjid
- Try not to perform Salah in front of other people (when not in congregation, so one is less likely to show off)
- Know the meaning (translation definitely but also tafsir) of the Arabic that is coming out of your mouth and knowing the Hadith Qudsi about Surah al-Fatiha
(On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (r.a) who said that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:
“Allah, the Glorious and Exalted said, “I have divided the prayer between Myself and My servant equally and My servant shall be granted what he asked for.” Therefore when the servant says, ‘All praises and thanks are due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds’, Allah says, “My servant has praised Me.” When he says, ‘The All-Merciful, the Most Merciful,’ Allah says “My servant has extolled me.” When he says, ‘Master of the Day of Judgment,’ Allah says, “My servant has glorified Me.” When he says, ‘You Alone we worship and Your aid Alone do we seek,’ Allah says, “This is between Me and My servant and My servant shall have what he requested.” When he says, ‘Guide us to the Straight Path, the Path of those whom You have favoured, not [the path] of those who have earned [Your] anger, nor of those who have gone astray,’ Allah says, “This is for My servant and My servant shall have what he asked for.” Sahih Muslim English Trans. vol.1, no.775)
- Knowing that during Sujood (prostration) is the time one is closest to Allah. Knowing it might be your last Salah.
- Reading the Qu’ran daily helps you think more of Allah’s words throughout the day and less likely to sin insha’Allah
- Understanding the meaning of the Quran in Arabic, reflecting and pondering
- Ponder about how you are actually standing in front of the Creator, our Sustainer, our Provider. Then think about all the sins you’ve committed in the day and how Allah (SWT) has not punished you yet. You will cry.
- Being around righteous people-this is important, make sure your company is good and will benefit you spiritually!
- Before offering Salah, (1) Know purpose of act your about to do (2) Know which Prayer your performing (#) Ask Allah to guide you during Prayer
Jazka’Allahu Khairan for all your contributions, may Allah (swt) reward you all.
