“And be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity: and whatever good you send forth for your souls before you, you shall find it with Allah: for Allah sees well all that you do.” (al-Baqarah:110)

Invocation 106. - Pleased and Displeased

What to say if something happens to please you or to displease you?

When something pleased the Prophet (SWS) he would say;

-Alhamdu lillaahil-lathee bini-matihi tatimmus-saalihat. -(Praise to Allah Who by His blessings all good things are perfected).

When something happened that displeased him, he used to say;

-Alhumdu lilaahil ‘alaa kulli haal. -(Praise is to Allah in all circumstances).

[Bukhari 7/163 Muslim2/980]

"And this worldly life is not but diversion and amusement. And indeed, the home of the Hereafter - that is the eternal life, if only they knew."
– Surah Al’Ankabut 29:64

Dawah: Character

The importance of good character (kindness and gentleness) whilst giving Dawah:

“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.” [16:125]

Tasfir:Al-Imam Az-Zamakhsharee said: “Arguing with them in a way that is better means using the best method of argumentation which is the method of kindnes and gentleness without gruffness and harshness”

This same method was given to the Prophet by Allah (SWT):

“And argue not with the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), unless it be in (a way) that is better (with good words and in good manner, inviting them to Islamic Monotheism with His Verses), except with such of them as do wrong, and say (to them): “We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you; our Ilah (God) and your Ilah (God) is One (i.e. Allah), and to Him we have submitted (as Muslims).” [29:46]

Tasfir: Except in a way that is better: means: Utilizing the best character traits and disposition. Such as meeting rudeness with kindness, anger with restraint, discord with guidance and rebelliousness with patience.

I think, the point to remember is, our character plays such an important role in Dawah, it is Dawah itself without having to debate, argue or persuade. The way we carry ourselves, treat each other (Our brothers and sisters), our family and our parents, Is sometimes enough to show non-muslims that Islam is a beautiful religion, with upright, pious and well-manered submitters.
